Come hear Bryan White tell us “What it is like to live and work in Antarctica” at the Capitan Library Friday, July 10 at 7 p.m. As always, refreshments after the talk.

Bryan  is a retired Navy Commander and aviator.  The last five years of his active duty were
 with the U.S. Antarctic program.  For three years he was the operations officer for “Operation Deep Freeze”, the U.S. Navy’s role at the Antarctica base and his last two years as Base Commander of the U.S. facility in Christchurch, New Zealand.

 During his tenure as operations officer, he would spend the "Austral" summer seasons -approximately 5 & 1/2 months each year- at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.  (The U.S. main base in Antarctica).  Just a side note, he and his wife met in Antarctica!  Really, what are the odds of meeting your mate in Antarctica?

This presentation is more like a conversation with the audience, supported with slides of the photographs he took.  It will be quite informal, complete with personal antidotes, over view of what the U.S. does in Antarctica, some historical data on Antarctic exploration and various facilities.   Questions are welcomed.  His wife will be there with a few items from Antarctica.  She spent two “Austral” summer seasons in Antarctica as well.  Come join Bryan sharing his personal experiences of the "way down-under".
