The Not 2 Shabby Shop will be open again Saturday, Jan 2, from 10am to 2pm.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but all the holidays fell on the days the N2SS is usually open - Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 



The library will be CLOSED  Thursday, Dec 24, Friday, Dec 25, and Saturday, Dec 26.  Open again on Tuesday, Dec 29, and Wednesday, Dec 30, for the regular hours of 10 am to 5:30 pm. CLOSED Thursday, Dec 31, and Friday, Jan 1.

OPEN Saturday, Jan 2, which will be the $5 bag-of-books sale.  Stock up for a Happy New Year!

Country Christmas Bazaar – 3rd Annual

On Saturday December 5, from 9am to 4pm, come to the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Capitan, NM, to enjoy a Country Christmas Bazaar with

lots of vendors for many holiday gift ideas, and a food vendor.

And do come take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus!

The PTA Clothing Exchange will be held on the Second Saturday of each month from 10am -12 noon at the Capitan Women's Club building, 103 W. 2nd Street in Capitan. All sizes of clothing are accepted.

Creative Aging Advisory Committee

The Creative Aging Advisory Committee is a group who wants “to create an opportunity to bring together decision makers and influencers across the public, private, and volunteer sectors at the county level and work in partnership with seniors to put in place imaginative changes that will have real impact on the day-to-day lives of all of us as we age in this frontier community.” The group is endorsed by the LC Commissioners and supported by ENMU-Ruidoso. Basic Computer Skills

Learn Basic Computer Skills for free, at the White Mountain Annex Computer Lab. It is located at 201 White Mountain Drive, Ruidoso. Drop in on Thursdays at 3:30pm to begin learning basic skills or bring your questions. Learn how to set-up an e-mail account, download and save files, or how to search internet for all kind of info, and so much more. Computers are available on site. Call 258-1730.

Federal Law REAL ID Act of 2005

Homeland Security will be starting visitor restrictions at federal facilities in January 2016, including a better ID than a NM state driver’s license to gain admission. It will be necessary to show a passport or other approved documentation. A New Mexico driver’s license as an ID is expected to no longer be enough to show at airports.

Not 2 Shabby Shop will be open Tuesday, Nov 24 and Wednesday, Nov 25 from 10am to 2pm both days.
 CLOSED: Thursday - Saturday (their normal open days).  That's Nov. 26 -  28.  Then back to regular days and hours the following week.





The library will be CLOSED Wednesday, Nov 25 and Thursday, Nov 26.  Then open Friday, Nov 27 and Saturday, Nov 28 at regular hours - 10 am to 2 pm.

Traveling for the holidays? Take a NM FamilyPass with you to tour museums or historical sites for FREE!

Don't forget the Capitan Library checks out the NM FamilyPass, which provides free admission for up to six people to any of the Department of Culture Affairs museums and historic sites.  Any Capitan Public Library card holder in good standing may borrow the pass for one week.  Passes available until 8/30/16.

One more chance to get your Flu shot is available 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, NOV. 23 at the Ruidoso Community Center, 501 Sudderth Dr., Ruidoso.  The N.M. Dept. of Health's Ruidoso Public Health Office is providing this clinic.

Writers' Workshop: Monday, Nov 9, at 9:45 am

The writers attending the Writing Art Workshop in October enjoyed sharing ideas and being taken to task to do some writing examples.  So, they decided to continuing to meet at least once a month.  The plan is to meet the second Monday of every month.  If you're a writer, come join this workshop where you can share your writings to get positive feedback and critiques from fellow writers.   The Capitan Library Art Workshops are created by Pearl Tippin with a grant from the Otero County Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Capitan Public Library presents for the 1st Friday Event of November the music of "The Hopefuls".   The music begins at 7 PM on Friday, Nov. 6.



Come join us for some good 'ole foot-tapping music by local musicians:
 Roland Burnett, Dale Boren, Roy Black, Randy Jones, Corinna Ripple & Chuck George. 
These musicians strum and sing some mighty fine Western, gospel and old-time music for our listening pleasure.  
Plus, nothing like a good rhyming cowboy to put a smile on your face, so get ready to enjoy poetic compositions by cowboy poet, Chuck George.

FREE Art workshops. Don't miss out -- sign up today!

At the Capitan Public Library,  Ellen Wilson, voice coach and teacher at ENMU-Ruidoso, offers two FREE music workshops on Saturday, November 7 and 21.  The three-hour afternoon sessions begin at 1p.m. to 4 p.m.    "How to free your voice"  workshop includes self expression, projection, physical and vocal exercises, music appreciation and individual/group practice of Christmas carols.

On Saturday, November 14,  a 6-hour FREE drama/theater workshop conducted by Myranda  
Rodriguez Waldo is offered.  The workshop begins at 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., with a half-hour lunch break (bring sack lunch ). Areas of focus will be voice projection, improvisational exercises, make up, theater vocabulary exploration, theater community resources, casting/audition process and readers' theater.

More on Flu Shots - if you are interested in getting one this year

Presbyterian Medical Group will provide free flu shots to those 18 and older at three locations in Ruidoso, Carrizozo and Capitan until the vaccine is gone.
The opportunities for immunization are:

·         from  1:30 to 3:30 pm on Friday, October 23, at the Carrizozo Health Center, 710 Avenue E,  in Carrizozo; and
·         from 10 am to noon at the Capitan Medical Clinic, 405 Lincoln Way, in Capitan.
The 2015-2016 flu vaccine will protect against four strains of seasonal flu, the Influenza A H3N2-type virus, the Influenza A H1N1-type virus and two Influenza B-type viruses.
For their safety, children cannot receive flu shots through these clinics. Contact your child's primary care provider to receive a properly dosed flu shot.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months and older receive the flu vaccine.
The Lincoln County Medical Center is a county-owned facility that has been managed by Presbyterian Healthcare Services since 1972.  Lincoln County Medical Center and Presbyterian Healthcare Services operate a hospital, a primary care and specialty clinic, three rural clinics and a countywide ambulance service in the county. Lincoln County Medical Center is one of eight hospitals run by Presbyterian, which also has a statewide health plan and a growing multi-specialty medical group.
And again: The Ruidoso Health Clinic will be  at the Ruidoso Community Center to give out FLU shots on Monday, October 26, from 9:00am to 4:00pm and at the Capitan School Gym on Wednesday, October 28, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

At the Library learn about insurance this week. FYI: Flu Shot clinics next week

 At the  program on Tuesday night, Oct. 20 at 6 pm, Be Well N.M. representatives will tell you about the changes in New Mexico's official health insurance exchange.  They're serving free pizza!

Wednesday morning, Oct. 21, at 10:30 am, learn about changes in this year's Medicare program.

Flu Shot Clinics:
  The Ruidoso Health Clinic will be  at the Ruidoso Community Center to give out FLU shots on Monday, October 26, from 9:00am to 4:00pm and at the Capitan School Gym on Wednesday, October 28, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

Free Health fair at Inn of the Mountain Gods - Oct. 17

There will be a free health fair at the Inn of The Mountain Gods on Saturday, October 17, 10:00 a.m.--5:00 p.m.
  Free flu shots.  65 vendors showing all their "health" goodies.  Sponsored by the Lincoln County Health organization.  Pass this along if you know of people who would like to attend. 

Be in the know about the Be Well NM program - Oct. 20 @ 6p.m.

On Nov. 1, open enrollment starts for New Mexico's official health insurance exchange.  At the Capitan Library on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6:00 pm, come learn about any changes in the program and where to go to get help getting this insurance.  Plus - PIZZA will be served! Bottled water, too.
